All seven countries on this page follow the same Bali visa rules, so one guide covers them all. The few things that differ, like which official travel advice to read or whether your plugs fit, are in the table further down.
For other passports, extensions and longer stays, see the Bali visa and entry requirements guide.
The Bali visa for European travellers
None of these seven countries gets visa-free entry to Indonesia. All of them use the Visa on Arrival, index B1. The visa facts here match our Bali visa guide, which we re-checked against the official portals on 6 October 2026.
| Bali visa for European travellers (2026) | |
|---|---|
| Visa | Visa on Arrival (e-VOA online or VOA at the airport) |
| Cost | IDR 500,000 (about EUR 25 at September 2026 rates) |
| Stay | 30 days from arrival |
| Validity | Use within 90 days of issue. Single entry |
| Extension | Once, for 30 more days (60 days total), about IDR 500,000 |
| Overstay | IDR 1,000,000 per day, and possible deportation |
The VOA is for tourism, meetings, family visits and transit. You can't work on it, and that includes paid content creation, teaching yoga or surfing, and remote work for Indonesian clients. Doing so can lead to prosecution and detention. If you're staying more than 60 days, apply for a C1 visa before you travel (the main guide explains it).
Country differences

All seven countries appear on the official e-VOA page's list of 87 eligible countries, as of 6 October 2026.
For safety advice, your own foreign ministry's page on Indonesia is the one to read. The dates below are the "last updated" dates we saw on 6 October 2026:
- Germany: Auswärtiges Amt (updated 6 October 2026)
- Netherlands: NederlandWereldwijd (updated 2 October 2026)
- Ireland: Department of Foreign Affairs
- France: France Diplomatie (updated 10 September 2026)
- Spain: Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores (updated 27 May 2026)
- Italy: Viaggiare Sicuri
- Sweden: Sweden Abroad
How to apply for the e-VOA
The e-VOA costs the same as the airport VOA. The difference is that you skip the payment queue, and you can use the automated immigration gates at Bali and Jakarta airports. Indonesian Immigration opens the autogates to any foreign visitor with an e-VOA (or another e-visa) and an electronic passport, so check for the chip symbol on your passport cover. Airport VOA holders go to the desks.
The only official site is evisa.imigrasi.go.id. There are lookalikes, and the UK government says visa scams are on the rise.
- Register at https://evisa.imigrasi.go.id and verify your email within one hour.
- Upload your passport photo page and a passport-style photo, each as JPG, JPEG or PNG under 200 KB.
- Pick the Visitor Visa / e-VOA and enter your arrival date, port (DPS) and flight.
- Pay IDR 500,000 by Visa, Mastercard or JCB within 120 minutes. Your bank may charge a fee for a non-euro payment.
- Download the visa PDF, keep it offline and print a copy.
Apply up to 14 days before you travel and at least 48 hours before departure. The official processing time for visitor visas is 3-5 working days, so I'd aim for about a week ahead.
The fee is IDR 500,000 on the official portal. On 12 August 2026 Immigration announced IDR 750,000 for an e-VOA and IDR 1,000,000 for a VOA bought on arrival, with no start date given (see the visa guide for sources). Check the portal on the day you apply.
You can't edit anything once it's submitted. If a detail doesn't match your passport, the visa is invalid and the fee isn't refunded. Each traveller, children included, needs their own.
Entry checklist
- Passport valid for 6 months from arrival, with 2 blank pages and no damage
- e-VOA PDF, saved offline and printed
- Return or onward ticket, required for the VOA
- All Indonesia arrival card (free), within 72 hours before arrival at allindonesia.imigrasi.go.id or the official app. Save the QR code
- Bali tourist levy of IDR 150,000, at lovebali.baliprov.go.id or the Love Bali app. Save the voucher QR code
- Travel insurance covering the activities you plan
- Driving licence and International Driving Permit if you'll ride a scooter
People often mix up the arrival card and the levy. The card is Indonesia's immigration, customs and health declaration, while the levy is Bali's tourist tax, paid on another site. Levy spot checks happen at Uluwatu, Tanah Lot, Besakih, Tegallalang, the airport and the Nusa Penida crossings, and if you can't show the QR code you pay there and then.
Flights from Europe to Bali
We found no scheduled nonstop flight to Bali from an EU city, but Istanbul has one. Everyone else connects.
Turkish Airlines flies Istanbul to Denpasar nonstop. AeroRoutes (18 September 2025) reported the route rising from 7 to 10 flights a week from 30 March 2026. From most European cities that means one flight to Istanbul and a second on to Bali.

KLM's Amsterdam flight to Bali stops in Singapore. It runs under one flight number (KL835 out, KL836 back) on a Boeing 777-300ER, and the airport's destination table and flight trackers list it for 2026. We couldn't open KLM's own route page, so check klm.com for the current days.
Garuda Indonesia flies Amsterdam to Jakarta nonstop. AeroRoutes (5 March 2026) reported a third weekly flight from 1 July to 21 October 2026 and two a week otherwise. From Jakarta you take a domestic flight to Bali. If that domestic leg is on a separate ticket, leave a generous gap between the two flights.

Other routes go via the Gulf (Doha, Dubai, Abu Dhabi) or an Asian hub such as Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok or Hong Kong.
Condor flew a one-off Frankfurt to Bali charter via Bangkok on 26 and 27 February 2026 (AeroRoutes, 14 July 2025), and we found no regular Condor service. If you see a Condor fare to Bali, check the routing and which airline flies each leg.
We don't quote fares or journey times here, because they change by route and by day. Bali's wet season runs roughly November to March, and July and August are busy. Nyepi closes Bali airport for 24 hours each March, so check the Nyepi dates before booking, and see best time to visit Bali.
The Gulf routes had a rough 2026. In late February and March, airspace closures led Qatar, Emirates and Etihad to cancel their Bali flights, and passengers were stranded at Bali airport. Qatar Airways listed Doha to Bali twice daily in its April to June 2026 schedule (AeroRoutes). The FCDO's advice, updated on 18 September 2026, still warns of airspace closures, delays and cancellations. Going via Istanbul, Amsterdam and Singapore, or another Asian hub, means you don't rely on a Gulf connection. Whatever you book, check with the airline before you fly.
What to bring from Europe
Bali uses Type C and Type F plugs (two round pins) at 230 V, the same as most of continental Europe. Italy and Ireland are the exceptions to check in the table above.
Pay in rupiah, cash or QRIS; Bali's 2025 Governor circular rules out paying in euros or any other foreign currency. Only change money at licensed changers with the green "PVA Berizin" sticker. ATMs are everywhere in Bali's towns but scarce on the Gilis and Nusa Penida, so carry cash there. If an ATM or card machine offers to charge you in euros or kronor, decline and pay in IDR.
Medical care is expensive and, according to the FCDO, evacuation can cost tens of thousands of pounds, so check your insurance covers scooter riding (with a licence), diving and volcano treks. The Spanish foreign ministry recommends medical insurance of at least EUR 80,000.
Tourists can still rent scooters, but Bali's rules require a valid licence. The German, Dutch and Spanish foreign ministries all say you need an International Driving Permit as well as your national licence (we read their pages on 6 October 2026), and the permit has to cover motorcycles. The German page also advises against renting motorcycles, because accidents are frequent on Bali and Lombok. Check your own ministry's page, linked above. Police checks focus on foreigners, and insurers often won't pay for unlicensed riding.
Carry medicines in their original packaging with a copy of the prescription and a doctor's letter. Ordinary medicines are allowed up to about a 3-month supply. ADHD stimulants, benzodiazepines and strong opioids are tightly controlled, so if you take any, contact the Indonesian embassy in your country first. Cannabis, CBD included, is illegal in Indonesia, whatever the rules at home.
Drone rules conflict, and some 2026 guides report pre-registration for every drone entering Bali. We couldn't confirm that from an official source, so check with Indonesia's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (hubud.dephub.go.id) before you pack one. Don't fly near the airport zone, temples or crowds.
See a travel clinic 4-8 weeks before you go. The German foreign ministry lists hepatitis A and polio vaccination, and typhoid, Japanese encephalitis and dengue on individual assessment. You only need a yellow fever certificate if you arrive from a country with transmission risk, which doesn't apply on a flight from Europe.
On 7 August 2026 the US CDC issued a Level 2 travel health notice for Zika in Indonesia after cases in travellers returning from Bali, and it advises pregnant travellers to avoid Bali. Bali's provincial health agency said on 23 August 2026 that it had no reported cases. Germany's foreign ministry says cases among European travellers have been documented on Bali and neighbouring islands, and TravelHealthPro reported 11 cases in France, most linked to Bali, on 20 April 2026. Ask a travel clinic what this means for you.
Also pack reef-safe sunscreen, repellent, rehydration salts, a refillable bottle, a dry bag and a sarong. Full list: Southeast Asia packing list.

Arrival day at Bali airport
You arrive at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International (DPS), just south of Kuta. If you flew Garuda via Jakarta, you clear immigration and customs in Jakarta, your first Indonesian airport, before the domestic flight, so give CGK as your arrival airport on the e-VOA and the All Indonesia card. Steps 1 and 2 below then happen in Jakarta rather than Bali. Check this with Garuda when you book.

- Immigration. e-VOA holders use the automated gates where available, or the desks. Without an e-VOA, pay for the VOA first (cash or card). Have your All Indonesia QR code and onward ticket ready.
- Customs. Show the All Indonesia QR code.
- Levy. If online payment failed, the official Love Bali FAQ says you can pay at the payment counter at the airport.
- SIM card. Telkomsel, XL and Indosat sell tourist SIMs in arrivals, and you'll need your passport. They register your phone's IMEI free for up to 90 days. This doesn't affect EU roaming plans or travel eSIMs.
- Cash. Take out rupiah from a bank ATM.
