Bali gets recommended to every first-time solo traveller, and there's a reason for that: Canggu's surf and cafe scene, Ubud's rice terraces and temples, Nusa Penida's cliffs, and a whole chain of islands further out if you want to keep going. The tricky part is that Bali rewards knowing where to go and when, and a lot of first solo trips end up stuck in one town because planning the rest felt like too much.
Our Bali group tours handle that part. Every trip is built for solo travellers aged 18 to 40, run in a small group with a Trip Host who's with you from the welcome dinner to the last one. The route, the stays and the transport are sorted, with free time built in so it still feels like your trip.
Here are our current Bali and Indonesia trips, from a seven-day taster to the full run from Java to Komodo.

Your Trip Host travels with the group for the whole trip, not just a day of it, and is the person who actually knows the route, the drivers and the honest answer to "is this beach worth it." A licensed local agency and licensed local guide deliver the ground services on our Bali trips, working alongside your Trip Host rather than replacing them, for things like the Rinjani trek or boat transfers to the Gili Islands.
You'll share a twin room or small dorm with someone of the same gender, across social hostels and guesthouses, with private rooms available on request on most trips. Meals are a mix of included group meals and free time to find your own warungs and beach clubs.
If you've got a week, Bali Express covers Canggu, Ubud and Nusa Penida, including a surf lesson and the Mount Batur sunrise trek. Want more islands, Bali & Gili Islands extends that same route out to three car-free nights on Gili Trawangan over twelve days. If yoga is the point, Bali Yoga Retreat builds daily classes around the classic sights without cutting you off from the group, and Bali Surf & Yoga is built for people who want to actually improve at both rather than tick them off. Prefer two wheels, Bali Rice Terrace Ride is an easy-to-moderate cycling route past the volcano and the Jatiluwih terraces. For the hardest thing on offer, Bali, Lombok & Rinjani Trek adds a licensed-guide summit of Mount Rinjani to the usual Bali stops. And if you want Komodo dragons and diving, Komodo Island Hopping, Komodo Liveaboard and Gili & Bali Dive Trip all run further east, with Indonesia Complete covering the whole stretch from Java to Komodo in twenty-one days.
The dry season, April to October, is the easiest window for Bali: calmer seas for Nusa Penida and the Gilis, less rain, and the best diving and snorkelling visibility. July and August are the busiest and most expensive months, so April, May, June, September and October tend to be a better balance of good weather and fewer crowds. The wet season, November to March, still works for Canggu and Ubud, just with more afternoon rain and rougher crossings to the outer islands. Our Bali best time to visit guide breaks the seasons down by region.
Our groups are solo travellers aged 18 to 40. Plenty are on their first solo trip and picked Bali because it's a well-worn route for that; others have already done a group trip elsewhere and are back for the surf, the trek or the islands further out. What they share is wanting a real Bali trip, not a resort package, with a group to do it alongside.
Reserving your place is free. Once enough travellers have joined and a departure is confirmed, usually around 10 people, we email you a confirmation with an invoice for the full trip price, paid by bank transfer in your currency within 7 days. We accept USD, GBP, EUR, AUD, CAD, NZD and INR. Prices differ by trip length and route, so check each trip page for current pricing.
Bali is one of the more established places in Southeast Asia for solo travel, which is part of why it's such a common first destination. A small group and a Trip Host add support that solo backpacking alone doesn't have, though we can't promise a trip removes every risk.
Most nationalities can get a visa on arrival or apply for one in advance, and the details depend on your passport and change from time to time. Check our Bali visa guide before booking flights.
Your Trip Host is with the group for the entire trip. A licensed local agency and licensed local guide handle ground services like the Rinjani trek or dive instruction, working alongside your Trip Host rather than instead of them.
Groups are kept small enough that the trip stays social rather than crowded. Exact group size is on each trip's page.
Accommodation, the activities and transport on the itinerary, and a set number of included meals are covered. Flights to Bali, travel insurance, and any meals outside those included aren't.
Yes, most of our travellers do. You'll share a twin room or dorm with someone of the same gender unless you book a private room, and the group is other solo travellers in your age range.
No. Gili & Bali Dive Trip starts from zero and includes a full PADI Open Water course, and Bali Surf & Yoga's coached lessons are built for beginners as well as people who've surfed before.
Yes, it's the hardest thing we offer in Indonesia: a multi-day trek to altitude with a licensed guide, on Bali, Lombok & Rinjani Trek. Check the trip page's physical rating and talk to us if you're unsure it's right for your fitness level.
Dry-season departures (April to October) are our most popular months and fill up first, so it's worth reserving early if you have a specific window in mind. Reserving is free, and the invoice for the full price only goes out once your departure is confirmed.
