Vietnam runs the full length of the country and then some: motorbikes on mountain passes in the north, caves and beaches through the centre, the Mekong Delta and Ho Chi Minh City in the south. Most first-time visitors try to plan it themselves and end up with a spreadsheet of trains, buses and hostel bookings that took longer to build than the trip itself.
Our Vietnam group tours cut that part out. Every trip is for solo travellers aged 18 to 40, run in small groups with a Trip Host who travels with you from the first stop to the last. The route, the accommodation and the transport are handled, and there's still free time built in at most stops to explore on your own.
Here are our current Vietnam trips, from a nine-day taster to the full run north to south and two multi-country routes that also cross into Thailand and Laos.

Groups are kept small enough that you'll actually get to know everyone, and your Trip Host is with the group for the whole trip rather than joining for a single day. That matters in Vietnam especially, since the country changes character every few hundred kilometres and having one person who knows the whole route saves a lot of second-guessing. For activities that need a specific license, such as the motorbike-guided sections of the Ha Giang Loop or cave treks in Phong Nha, we use licensed local guides who work alongside your Trip Host.
You'll share a twin room or small dorm with someone of the same gender, in social hostels and guesthouses, with private rooms available on request on most trips. Some meals are included as a group; the rest is free time to pick your own street stalls, restaurants and night markets.
If you've got nine days, Vietnam Express covers Hanoi, Ninh Binh, Lan Ha Bay and Hoi An without wasting a day on transit. If the Ha Giang Loop is the whole reason you're going, there's a five-day trip built just around that, or a seven-day version that adds Cao Bang. Want mountains specifically, Northern Vietnam Mountains pairs the loop with Sapa trekking. Want beaches and the Mekong, Central & South Vietnam covers that end of the country in ten days. For the full north-to-south run, Vietnam North to South and Vietnam Complete cover it in fifteen and twenty-one days respectively, with Vietnam Complete adding the Ha Giang Loop into the mix. And if you want more than one country, Thailand & Vietnam and the Southeast Asia Grand Loop both start in Thailand before crossing into Vietnam.
Vietnam doesn't share one climate across the country, so the best month depends on your route. The north (Hanoi, Ha Giang, Sapa) is coolest and driest from October to December and again in March, while the centre (Hoi An, Hue) sees its heaviest rain from October to November. The south (Ho Chi Minh City, the Mekong Delta) has a straightforward dry season from December to April. If you're doing a north-to-south trip, aim for a window like February to April, when most of the country is workable at once. Our Vietnam best time to visit guide has the full month-by-month breakdown.
Our groups are solo travellers aged 18 to 40. Some are on a career break, some are between jobs, some just didn't want to wait around for friends to have the same three weeks free. What they share is wanting a real trip through Vietnam rather than a coach tour, with enough planning done for them that they can actually enjoy the country instead of managing logistics.
Reserving your place is free. Once enough travellers have joined and a departure is confirmed, usually around 10 people, we email you a confirmation with an invoice for the full trip price, paid by bank transfer in your currency within 7 days. We accept USD, GBP, EUR, AUD, CAD, NZD and INR. Each trip page has its own price, since it depends on the route, the season and how long the trip runs.
Vietnam is a common choice for first-time solo travel in Southeast Asia, and travelling with a small group and a Trip Host adds a layer of support that going it alone doesn't have. No trip can guarantee against every risk, and we don't claim otherwise.
Requirements depend on your passport and change from time to time, so check our Vietnam visa guide before you book flights. Many nationalities can get an e-visa online in advance.
The Ha Giang Loop runs through Vietnam's far north on mountain roads with drivers and support from a licensed local team. Our trips are built so you don't need prior riding experience, since you can ride pillion with a local driver rather than handling the bike yourself.
Your Trip Host travels with the group for the entire trip, not just a single day. For activities that legally require a licensed local guide, such as riding sections of the Ha Giang Loop or caving in Phong Nha, that guide works alongside your Trip Host.
Groups stay small on purpose so the trip feels social rather than like a coach tour. Group size varies by trip and is listed on each trip's page.
The price covers accommodation, the transport and activities on the itinerary, and a set number of included meals. Flights into and out of Vietnam, travel insurance, and meals outside the included ones aren't covered.
Yes, and most people do. You'll be in a twin room or small dorm with someone of the same gender unless you book a private room, and the group is made up of other solo travellers in the same age range.
Thailand & Vietnam and the Southeast Asia Grand Loop both run through Vietnam as part of a longer, multi-country route. See our Southeast Asia tours hub for the full list.
Ha Giang Loop departures and the longer north-to-south routes can fill up well ahead of the trip dates, so it's worth reserving early if you have a specific window in mind. Reserving is free, and the invoice for the full price only goes out once your departure is confirmed.
