Laos moves slower than its neighbours, and that's the whole appeal: waterfalls and monks in Luang Prabang, tubing and limestone cliffs around Vang Vieng, a new railway that's cut cross-country travel times down to a couple of hours, and the far south's 4000 Islands and Bolaven Plateau if you've got longer. It's also a country where public transport information changes fast enough that planning it alone from outside the region is harder than it should be.
Our Laos group tours take that off your plate. Every trip is for solo travellers aged 18 to 40, run in a small group with a Trip Host who travels with you the entire way. The routes, the transport and the stays are handled, with enough free time at each stop that you're not being marched through the itinerary.
Below are our current Laos trips, including one that crosses in from northern Thailand.

Your Trip Host leads the group in person for the full trip, from the first evening to the last. A licensed local agency and licensed local guide deliver the ground services, drivers and permits our Laos trips need, working alongside your Trip Host rather than in place of them.
Rooms are twin-share or small dorms with travellers of the same gender, in social hostels and guesthouses, with private rooms available on request on most trips. Some meals come as a group; the rest is free time to find your own.
Laos Explorer covers the north in nine days: Luang Prabang and Vang Vieng, using the new railway to get between them. If you're coming from Thailand first, Thailand & Laos Slow Boat starts in Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai before crossing to Luang Prabang, Vang Vieng and finishing in Vientiane over twelve days. For the south, Southern Laos Adventure covers the karst scenery around Thakhek and the river islands near the Cambodian border in ten days, and Laos Motorbike Tour is a focused six-day loop around the plateau's coffee farms and waterfalls out of Pakse.
November to February is the easiest stretch across Laos: dry, warmer days and cooler nights, and the best visibility for the waterfalls and the Mekong. March to May gets hot and can bring haze from seasonal burning, similar to northern Thailand. The wet season runs roughly June to October, with heavier rain in the south. If your trip includes the 4000 Islands or the Bolaven Plateau, the dry season is also when the roads are easiest. See our Laos travel guide for more on routes and timing.
Our groups are solo travellers aged 18 to 40, often people who've already done a first Southeast Asia trip and want somewhere quieter for the next one, alongside first-timers who picked Laos specifically because it's less on the well-worn backpacker route. What they share is wanting the slower pace of Laos with a group to share it, rather than working out the logistics alone.
Reserving your place is free. Once enough travellers have joined and a departure is confirmed, usually around 10 people, we email you a confirmation with an invoice for the full trip price, paid by bank transfer in your currency within 7 days. We accept USD, GBP, EUR, AUD, CAD, NZD and INR. Each trip page carries its own current price.
Laos is a generally straightforward country to travel through, and a small group with a Trip Host adds a layer of support that solo travel alone doesn't have. No trip can remove every risk, and we don't claim otherwise.
Most nationalities need either the e-visa or a visa on arrival, and requirements vary by passport and can change. Check current requirements before booking flights.
Your Trip Host is with the group for the entire trip. A licensed local agency and licensed local guide handle drivers, permits and ground logistics alongside them.
Groups are kept small so the trip stays social. Exact group size is on each trip's page.
Accommodation, the transport and activities on the itinerary, and a set number of included meals. Flights to Laos, travel insurance and meals outside those included aren't covered.
Yes, most travellers do. You'll share a twin room or dorm with someone of the same gender unless you book a private room, and the group is other solo travellers in your age range.
Check the trip page for the current requirements and physical rating before booking, since routes and rider requirements can change.
Yes. Thailand & Laos Slow Boat starts across the border in Chiang Rai, and the Southeast Asia Grand Loop runs through Laos as part of a longer Thailand-to-Vietnam route. See our Southeast Asia tours hub for the full list.
Dry-season dates (November to February) are the most in demand, so reserving ahead gives you the best choice of departures. Reserving is free, and the invoice for the full price only goes out once your departure is confirmed.
