Bali isn't visa-free for Indians, because India isn't on Indonesia's visa-free list. The visa on arrival is simple, though, and you can get it online before you leave. This page covers the visa, the two other forms, flights from India and what to pack.

For all nationalities, extensions and the C1 visa for longer stays, see the Bali visa and entry requirements guide.

The Bali visa for Indians

The official e-VOA page lists India among the 87 countries that qualify for Indonesia's Visa on Arrival (index B1), as we saw on 6 October 2026. Visa-free entry is mostly for ASEAN countries, and India isn't one of them. The visa facts here match our Bali visa guide, which we re-checked against the official portals the same day.

Bali visa for Indian citizens (2026)
VisaVisa on Arrival (e-VOA online or VOA at the airport)
CostIDR 500,000 (about ₹2,700 or US$28 at September 2026 rates)
Stay30 days from arrival
ValidityUse within 90 days of issue. Single entry
ExtensionOnce, for 30 more days (60 days total), about IDR 500,000
OverstayIDR 1,000,000 per day, and possible deportation

The VOA is for tourism, meetings, family visits and transit. You can't work on it, and that includes paid content creation or remote work for Indonesian clients; doing so can lead to prosecution and detention. If you want more than 60 days, apply for a C1 visa before you travel. The official portal asks for a personal bank statement covering the last 3 months with at least US$2,000 or the equivalent, and the main guide has the rest.

How to apply for the e-VOA

The e-VOA costs the same as the airport VOA, and it lets you skip the payment queue and use the automated immigration gates at Bali airport. Indonesian Immigration opens the autogates to any foreign visitor with an e-VOA (or another e-visa) and an electronic passport. Look for the chip symbol on your passport cover. If yours has none, you can't use the gates and will go to the desks instead.

Apply only at evisa.imigrasi.go.id. There are lookalike sites, and the UK government says visa scams are on the rise.

  1. Create an account at https://evisa.imigrasi.go.id and verify your email within one hour.
  2. Upload a scan of your passport photo page and a passport-style photo. Each must be JPG, JPEG or PNG and under 200 KB.
  3. Choose the Visitor Visa / e-VOA and enter your arrival date, port (DPS for Bali) and flight number.
  4. Pay IDR 500,000 by Visa, Mastercard or JCB within 120 minutes. RuPay isn't on the accepted list. The card doesn't have to be in your name, and your bank may add a foreign transaction fee. Under RBI rules, Indian cards are issued for domestic use only, so switch on international and online (card-not-present) transactions in your banking app before you pay.
  5. Download the visa PDF, save it offline and print a copy.

Apply up to 14 days before you fly and at least 48 hours before departure. The official processing time for visitor visas is 3-5 working days, so I'd do it a week ahead.

The fee is IDR 500,000 on the official portal. On 12 August 2026 Immigration announced IDR 750,000 for an e-VOA and IDR 1,000,000 for a VOA bought on arrival, with no start date given (see the visa guide for sources). Check the portal on the day you apply.

Check every detail against your passport before submitting. You can't edit the application afterwards, a mismatch makes the visa invalid, and there are no refunds. Each traveller needs a separate e-VOA, children included.

Entry checklist

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from arrival, with 2 blank pages and no damage
  • e-VOA PDF, saved offline and printed
  • Return or onward ticket, which the VOA requires and airlines may check at check-in in India
  • All Indonesia arrival card (free), submitted within 72 hours before landing at allindonesia.imigrasi.go.id or the official app. Save the QR code
  • Bali tourist levy of IDR 150,000, paid at lovebali.baliprov.go.id or in the Love Bali app. Save the voucher QR code
  • Travel insurance, including medical evacuation
  • Medicines in original packaging with the prescription and a doctor's letter

Don't mix up the arrival card and the levy. The arrival card is the national immigration, customs and health form, and the levy is Bali's tourist tax, paid on a different website. Officials spot-check the levy at Uluwatu, Tanah Lot, Besakih, Tegallalang, the airport and the Nusa Penida crossings. If you can't show the QR code, you pay on the spot.

Flights from India to Bali

IndiGo flies nonstop from Bengaluru and Air India flies nonstop from Delhi. IndiGo's Delhi and Mumbai flights stop on the way. The table follows schedule reports from AeroRoutes, checked on 6 October 2026. Routes change every season, so check the airline's site for your dates.

Air IndiaDelhi to BaliNonstop, increased from 7 to 10 flights a week from 1 December 2025 (AeroRoutes, 16 October 2025)

IndiGo has moved its start dates for these new aircraft more than once, so treat the January 2027 dates as plans rather than fixed dates.

If you're connecting instead, itineraries commonly go via Singapore or Kuala Lumpur. We don't quote fares or flight times here, because they change by route and by day. Our Bali trip cost guide has the full budget picture.

Bali's wet season runs roughly November to March, and July and August are busy. Nyepi closes Bali airport for 24 hours once a year in March (Nyepi dates). See best time to visit Bali for the weather month by month.

The Middle East airspace closures of early 2026 mostly hit Gulf-airline routes to Bali. The nonstop flights above don't route through the Gulf, but check with your airline if your routing touches it.

What to bring from India

Bali uses Type C and Type F plugs (two round pins) at 230 V, so bring an adaptor for Indian plugs.

Pay in rupiah, cash or QRIS; Bali's 2025 Governor circular says not to pay in foreign currency. Only change money at licensed changers with the green "PVA Berizin" sticker, because the unlicensed ones run counting scams. We couldn't confirm that Bali's money changers reliably take rupees, so don't count on it. The simplest option is withdrawing rupiah from ATMs with an internationally enabled card, and some travellers also carry a major currency such as US dollars to change. ATMs are easy to find in Bali's towns but scarce on the Gilis and Nusa Penida. Use ones inside banks or malls, and if the machine asks, choose to be charged in IDR rather than rupees.

Check the Indian government's current advice for travellers to Indonesia, from the Ministry of External Affairs and the Consulate General of India in Bali, before you go. Medical care is expensive and, according to the FCDO, evacuation can cost tens of thousands of pounds, so check your insurance covers scooter riding (with a licence), diving and volcano treks.

Tourists can rent scooters in Bali but need a valid licence. To ride legally you need your home licence plus an International Driving Permit with the motorcycle (A) category, and the FCDO says a licence from home isn't valid on its own. In India the IDP application starts on the Parivahan Sarathi portal and goes through your RTO, so check your state's process and that your licence includes a motorcycle category. Police checks focus on foreigners, and insurance often won't pay for unlicensed riding.

Carry medicines in their original packaging with your name, a copy of the prescription and a doctor's letter with the diagnosis, generic names and dose. Ordinary medicines are allowed up to about a 3-month supply. Psychotropic and narcotic medicines, including ADHD medication, benzodiazepines and strong opioids, are tightly controlled, so if you take any, contact the Indonesian embassy before you travel. All cannabis products are illegal, CBD included.

See a travel clinic 4-8 weeks ahead about hepatitis A, typhoid and hepatitis B. You only need a yellow fever certificate if you arrive from a country with transmission risk, so ask your clinic whether your own routing counts.

On 7 August 2026 the US CDC issued a Level 2 travel health notice for Zika in Indonesia after cases in travellers returning from Bali, and it advises pregnant travellers to avoid Bali. Bali's provincial health agency said on 23 August 2026 that it had no reported cases. Ask a travel clinic what this means for you.

Drone rules conflict, and some 2026 guides report mandatory pre-registration for all drones entering Bali. We couldn't confirm that from an official source, so check with Indonesia's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (hubud.dephub.go.id) before you pack one. Never fly near the airport zone, temples or crowds.

Also pack reef-safe sunscreen, mosquito repellent, rehydration salts, a refillable bottle, a dry bag for boats and a sarong for temples. See our Southeast Asia packing list.

  1. Immigration. With an e-VOA, use the automated gates where available, or the desks. Without one, pay for the VOA first (cash or card), then queue for immigration. Keep your All Indonesia QR code and return ticket ready.
  2. Customs. Show the All Indonesia QR code. Keep your medicine paperwork to hand.
  3. Levy. If you couldn't pay online, the official Love Bali FAQ says you can pay at the payment counter at the airport.
  4. SIM card. Telkomsel, XL and Indosat sell tourist SIMs in arrivals; bring your passport. They register your phone's IMEI free for up to 90 days. This doesn't affect Indian roaming packs or travel eSIMs.
  5. Cash. Withdraw rupiah at a bank ATM before leaving the airport.
