Canggu's hostels split by area almost as much as by price. Batu Bolong is where most first-timers land, packed with surf schools and dorms a short walk from the beach. Echo Beach, a few minutes up the coast, leans harder into the party scene. Berawa is calmer and closer to the beach clubs, and Pererenan has traded some of the nightlife for co-living spaces and rice-field views. Our Canggu travel guide covers what to actually do in each; this page is just about where to sleep.
We don't rate hostels or copy reviews here. Each hostel named below had a live website or a Hostelworld listing with 2026 guest reviews when we checked on 6 October 2026. Prices change with the season, so treat every figure as a guide and check current rates before you book.

Batu Bolong: the busiest surf-hostel base
Batu Bolong is Canggu's centre, with the temple on the rocks, the widest run of surf schools and the busiest sunset crowd. Most first-time hostel stays in Canggu happen here, since everything (the beach, cafes, and a lesson) is within walking distance.
- The Farm Hostel is on Jalan Pantai Batu Bolong. Its own site lists 8-bed mixed dorms and 6 and 8-bed female-only dorms, all air-conditioned with en-suite bathrooms, privacy curtains and a large locker. Its Hostelworld listing shows two pools, a bar, a kitchen and a daily programme of event nights.
- Vasudha Hostel Canggu is on Jalan Kayu Tulang, about half a kilometre from the centre of Canggu. Its Hostelworld listing shows a pool, a coworking space and surf lessons that include pool practice before you paddle out, and mentions 10-bed dorms. We couldn't confirm a female-only dorm there, so ask before you book.
Neither listing we opened shows a dorm price, so use the Canggu range in the box above and check the live rate. The hostels guide has the same range. Our Bali surfing guide covers Batu Bolong's own break and lesson prices in full.

Echo Beach (Batu Mejan): Canggu's party hostel scene
Echo Beach, known locally as Batu Mejan, is a few minutes up the coast from Batu Bolong, with a reef break for more experienced surfers and the area's busiest run of sunset bars. Its hostel scene is smaller but leans hard into the party side of Canggu.
- Lay Day, on Jalan Pantai Batu Mejan, runs mixed dorms (4 and 6 beds) alongside a 6-bed female dorm, with multiple pools, a bar and nightly events listed on its own site. Its own site, read on 6 October 2026, lists dorm beds from IDR 160,000 (standard 6-bed mixed) and 180,000 (standard 6-bed female) up to 220,000 (deluxe 4-bed mixed). Peak-season rates may differ.
If you want to be based right on Echo Beach itself rather than a short ride from it, book early in July and August, since this is a smaller hostel cluster than Batu Bolong's.

Berawa: a quieter, boutique-leaning stay
Berawa, south of Batu Bolong towards Seminyak, has a wide beach backed by beach clubs and a calmer hostel scene than the centre of Canggu.
- Dip & Doze Living is on Jalan Pantai Berawa. Its Hostelworld listing shows mixed and female-only dorms with air conditioning, lockers and blackout curtains, separate male and female bathrooms outside the rooms, a pool, a rooftop area, a kitchen and a coworking space. The hostel's own site publishes no prices.
Berawa's hostels are fewer than Batu Bolong's, so check the live rate for your dates.

Pererenan: co-living and a slower pace
Pererenan, north of Echo Beach, still has working rice fields between the villages and trades some of Canggu's nightlife for cafes and a growing co-living scene aimed at remote workers.
- Tribal is on Jalan Pantai Pererenan. A bali.com listing calls it a coworking hostel, and its own site mentions accommodation and a coworking space. We couldn't see room types or rates, so check if it's a dorm, a private room or a longer stay before you book.
Pererenan has fewer hostels than Batu Bolong, and some stays here are aimed at remote workers staying for weeks rather than nights.

What to check before you book
- Distance from the beach you actually want. Batu Bolong and Echo Beach hostels are steps from the sand; Berawa and Pererenan usually mean a short walk or a Grab.
- Fan versus air-con dorms. Fan-only rooms cost less but are hard going outside the cooler months. Check which kind you're booking.
- Curtains and lockers. Several listings above mention both, but bring your own small padlock to be sure.
- Whether it's actually a hostel. Some Pererenan stays are coworking or co-living places, so check the room type and whether the rate is nightly or longer.
- Filtering for a female-only dorm. Three of the hostels above list one, but check current availability directly, since numbers are limited compared with mixed dorms.
- Booking ahead for July and August, and around any Balinese public holiday, when Canggu's hostels fill up fastest.
